| Description NFL is the most abundant of the three neurofilament proteins and, like the other nonepithelial intermediate filament proteins, it can form homomeric 10-nm filaments. Neurofilaments usually contain three intermediate filament proteins: light (NEFL), medium (NEFM), and heavy (NEFH) which are involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber and may additionally cooperate with the neuronal intermediate filament proteins PRPH and INA to form neuronal filamentous networks. | ||
